It’s been over 60 years since Henry Schmidt made his first sausages in Steelton, PA. Fresh meats with all-natural spices and flavorings were the secret of his recipe when he handcrafted his German-Hungarian sausage. Schmidt’s Sausage soon became famous for delectable fresh and smoked meat products. Henry then passed the business down to his daughter MaryAnn and son-in-law Dan Jorich in 1975 who carried on the sausage making tradition until their sons Don and Doug Jorich took on the business in 1991. After 50 years, Don and Doug moved the shop out of Steelton, PA to Eisenhower Boulevard where Schmidt’s operates today. After the passing of Doug in 2020, Don carries on the business with the help of his son and nephews to keep the family tradition going. Recently, Schmidt’s has opened a second location at the Fresh Market in Hershey, PA as a way to spread their signature German Hungarian smoked flavor throughout Central PA.
